Last gig of the year...

November has already crept upon us and within a blink of an eye we're writing this on the eve of our last gig of the year - The Paper Chase supported by Ex Libras and On Histories of Rosenberg at the Lexington (London). In terms of gigs, we've changed our tact this year, preferring quality over quantity. This allowed us to create the PR arm of the company, which has already proved itself to be highly successful this year.

We're feeling pretty relaxed about this one so far (famous last words? We hope not!). We've already sold all our cheap tickets but there are still £7 tickets available on the door. We're really excited about seeing The Paper Chase - we promoted their London show last year at The Metro (RIP) in central London. Ex Libras as main support will be the perfect calm before The Paper Chase's visceral jaunt-rock. Plus there's the post-rock leanings of On Histories of Rosenberg to look forward to as openers. We've not seen them live yet but we were lucky enough to PR their last self-titled EP release through Function Records. Our good friends Steve and Chris Wheeler will also be hitting the decks (as the "Wheels of Steel" perhaps?) spinning some fine, fine tunes.

If you want to listen to Ex Libras or On Histories of Rosenberg before the gig tomorrow, just check our official website.

We'll be updating with pictures and reports from the gig in the next few days.

Well, that's it for now! It's set to be another busy week here at ABoF Towers with this gig tomorrow evening, a plethora of new clients and some fun stuff planned as well - our good friends Biffy are set to rock Brixton on Thurs and there's yet another 30th birthday do at the end of the week. Let's hope the last few months of the year are fun-filled and packed with goodness for one and all!

Peaceout - ABoF x

Introducing... Lonely Joe Parker & Jackie Paper

We're very happy to be working on Sotones' Lonely Joe Parker & Jackie Paper's digital reissue of their summer release - What's Wrong With Broken Glass EP.

The release is available digitally from December 14th 2009 and you can grab a copy on vinyl HERE. All proceeds go to Oxfam.

The collaboration between Lonely Joe Parker and Jackie Paper was born from a tale of woe...

Armed only with a $20 pawnshop guitar on a tour of the US last year, LONELY JOE PARKER found himself robbed in Miami and 1,000 miles from home. The itinerant romantic-in-rags dug deep into Americana, and came up with a set of songs that blend a streets-eye view in the vein of Tom Waits with St. Vincent's sonic vision. The songs earned their creator enough change to make it up to NYC, and upon his return to the Southampton docklands, he wondered why the songs that had earned his own keep couldn't help others too.

Then he bumped into JACKIE PAPER - better known as DAVID MIATT, guitarist and songsmith in rapidly rising indiepop stars THOMAS TANTRUM. Fresh from radio appearances on BBC1 and 6Music plus summer festival slots including Reading and Bestival, an older, folkier impulse led Dave to pen a book of wistful, almost melancholic songs referencing Elliot Smith, Brian Wilson and Nick Drake.

The EP has already been featured on BBC South:Live and Balcony.TV, and features members of Modernaire, Peter Lyons, The Moulettes and Moneytree.

Single Release: Tango in the Attic "Seven Second Stare"

We're extremely happy to be working on Tango in the Attic's forthcoming single Seven Second Stare, which is out on 30th November 2009 via Keep Calm Records.

You can download a press release, listen to a stream of the single and check out more information on the band HERE.

Tango in the Attic are a five-piece from Glenrothes, Fife. The band met as childhood friends and decided to make music together once they had joined University.

The boys’ live shows have gained them quite a reputation in recent times. Summer 2009 saw the lads play to a crammed tent full of bouncing festival goers at T In The Park. Further to their reputation on the live circuit, their song, “Jackanory”, was selected by national fashion retailer Schuh as a synchronisation for their latest UK and Ireland wide TV campaign. Not bad for five boys from Fife!

In a short space of time, Tango have established themselves as one of the freshest, most exciting bands in Scotland and are now fully ready to spread the word with the release of their single Seven Second Stare.

"They're young, they're fresh, they get sweaty onstage and they make an ace noise! Tango in the Attic combine Vampire Weekend’s sing-a-longs with Strokes-style riffing topped-off with a real emotional edge” - Vic Galloway, BBC Radio Scotland

Their influences are plucked from the best pop, avant-garde and east coast garage music from the last forty-years. The boys cite Paul Simon as one of their song-writing heroes along with avant-indie pioneers The Velvet Underground when it comes to instrumentation and arrangement.

Seven Second Stare is the perfect example of how Tango in the Attic blend these avant-garde elements and are able to easily craft a highly listenable, quirky and original single. B-side "Mirrorface" continues this theme, showcasing the band’s fun tempo riding along off-kilter beats and sing-along vocals.

Changes...

Over the last year, there have been a lot of changes at ABoF towers.

We have moved away slightly from purely promoting live shows and at the beginning of 2009, we ventured into music PR and management. Since this time, we've had a roster of great bands.

85 Bears, Prego and Phantom were the first bands to join ABoF PR and Function Records followed soon after. ABoF PR has gone from strength to strength since then and recently we were able to get Phantom's video for their debut single, Great Pretender, played in all the Topshop / Topman stores around the country! In addition to the very first ABoF PR rosterites, we now have London band Ex Libras, Scots five-piece Tango in the Attic, London-based art project Art for Kunst and many others.

With the last few months of 2009 set to be our busiest yet, we're already looking forward to a fruitful and fun 2010!

28th June 2008 @ The Metro: Humanfly + Queen of Swords + The Sontaran Experiment

As we've now reached the height of summer, you may be thinking that spending the night in a warm, dark club isn't probably the best way to entertain yourselves in June. You're wrong! The line-up of tonight's ABoF vs Subba Cultcha at The Metro is one filled with in your face doom-metal, a smattering of experimental drone rock and instrumental prog-inspired finery.

The Sontaran Experiment hail from Brighton. They hit the stage with wave upon wave of doom, experimental metal and pounding beats. Their set is like smashing your face against an impending wall of absoloute relentless noise.

After that welcome assault on the ears, what better fodder for the ears than Queen of Swords. Queen of Swords are a band of many featuring Liam of Trencher on the drums. They play a spectacularly short set (lasting about 15 minutes) of one song it se
ems, stretched-out over catchy beats under a hypnotic rhythmic melody. After their short, but oh so sweet, set they receive a loud and much deserved cheer. The crowd seem to love it.

Now, the much anticipated Humanfly, who hail from Leeds. They enter to a darkened stage, lit only by three small white lights by the feet of each m
ember. They tilt and sway their guitars to riffs and melodies shaking a nod to the likes of a hardened Oceansize minus the vocals. Heads bob and rock notoriously to Humanfly's brilliantly crafted alt-rock
melodies.

And as Humanfly leave to rapturous applause, we're humbled and please by the fact that people still choose to listen to such diverse and creative bands. We've won the war against summer once again as experimental live music prevails once more!
